Exploring Innovation and Community at the Plant Based World Expo in NYC

Veganism means a lot to us. This lifestyle goes beyond what’s on the plate—it's about discovering new brands and products that expand our options, and the Plant Based World Expo in NYC was a perfect opportunity to dive into this evolving space. Although I’ve been vegan for four years, I always find it insightful to try new brands and break away from my traditional tofu and chickpea rotation. The expo offered a chance to step outside my usual staples and explore exciting alternatives.

One of the standout sessions, "Embracing the Plant-Based Plate: Integrating Plant-Based Products into Everyday Meals," emphasized that behavioral change is possible when people simply give plant-based options a try. The message resonated with me because I’ve seen firsthand, through events like community gatherings, how quickly people can go from trying something new to fully embracing it.

Community plays a significant role in this transition. Through my involvement with Veggie Mijas, I’ve experienced the importance of creating spaces where plant-forward and vegan-curious people can connect. A few weekends ago, we hosted a potluck in Chicago where everyone shared plant-based dishes. It wasn’t just about the food; it was about swapping recipes, discussing ingredients, and enjoying delicious, fulfilling meals together. That sense of connection and openness is key to encouraging more people to make plant-based choices.

At the Expo, I had the chance to sample innovative products, attend insightful talks, and meet like-minded individuals. Some of my personal favorites were the yogurt from Nature’s Fynd, the dips from Fabalish, and the plant-based tuna from DNI Group. These brands are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in plant-based eating.

The expo wasn’t just about discovering new products; it was a reminder of how impactful the plant-based community can be. By continuing to create spaces where we share meals, ideas, and stories, we can inspire more people to join the movement.
